Welcome to this week's newsletter

What an exciting time of year! The garden has almost exploded into growth and flower these last few days. It's a great time to plant up some summer pots or refresh parts of the border and as usual you will find everything you need here at Ardcarne Garden Centre along with lots of inspiration and helpful advice for your garden.

We are so excited that our Garden Cafe, Boyle branch, is opening for outdoor dining from Monday 7th June. Why not come in and treat yourself to some of our famous home made cakes and freshly roasted coffee.

The June Bank Holiday is traditionally the weekend for the Bloom Flower Show and this year it is all happening virtually with online events, live panels and Q&A sessions, among lots of other events. For more information check out bordbiabloom.com

PLANTS FOR POLLINATORS

Remember to include some plants that are beneficial to pollinators in your garden. Here are some of our favourites that are guaranteed to be a huge boost to bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects.

Cotoneaster
Beloved by bees in flowers and birds in berry! Useful range of types available for ground cover, walls or tree specimens

Heather
Invaluable plants for bees. Choose winter and summer flowering varieties and plant in groups to create colourful ground cover.

Sedum
Easily grown perennial with heads of flowers in late summer. A magnet for butterflies

Foxglove
Elegant wildflower and great in the garden too! Bees love to tunnel into the flowers for nectar.

Verbena bonariensis
Tall, wiry stemmed perennial with tufts of violet blue flowers for months. Much fancied by bees and butterflies.

Buddleja
An amazing aptly named the butterfly bush! Easy to grow and available in a selection of colours.

Catmint (Nepeta)
Aromatic perennial with masses of blue flowers in summer. Lovely along a path edge. Bees find it irresistible.

Fuchsia
One of the few plants that can still be 'worked' by bees in wet weather. And they look great too!
